چکیده

Transport is studied for the kinetically stabilized tandem mirror, an attractive magnetic confinement device for achieving a steady-state burning plasma. For a magnetohydrodynamic stable system, three different radial transport models with Bohm, gyro-Bohm, and electron temperature gradient ETG scaling are derived. As a conservative estimate, numerical coefficients in the models are taken to be consistent with tokamak and stellarator databases. The plug mirrors create an ambipolar potential that controls end losses, whereas radial losses are driven by drift wave turbulence, which lowers the electron temperature through radially trapped particle modes and ETG transport losses. The radial transport equations are analyzed, taking into account the Pastukhov energy and particle end losses. For mirror ratio Rm=9 and a large density ratio between plug and central cell regions, there is a high axial ion confinement potential i /Ti 1, as demonstrated in the GAMMA-10 by Cho et al. Nucl. Translocation of polymers out of confined geometries

We consider the free energy of confinement for a flexible self-avoiding polymer inside a spherical cavity. Accurate numerical calculations allow us to arbitrate between competing scaling predictions. We find that, for moderate confinement, the free energy exhibits a power-law dependence on cavity size that is different from what is observed for planar and cylindrical confinement. At high monome...

Energy confinement scaling for W7-AS high-β plasmas

High-β energy confinement data are subjected to comparisons of scaling invariant, first-principle physical models. The models differ in the inclusion of basic equations indicating the nature of transport. The result for high-β data of the W7-AS stellarator is that global transport is described best with a collisional high-β model, which is different from previous outcomes for low-β data. Model ...

Improved performance of subballast stabilized using geocell for high speed train

Rapid urbanization and growing industrial demand in many developing countries has led to frequent congestion of the transport infrastructure. Therefore, the expansion of high-speed rail (HSR) networks is crucial to meet this growing demand. Nevertheless, applying high cyclic stress causes significant lateral spreading and in turn excessive settlements of the track substructure. This problem bec...
